New ART Route and Schedule Changes Effective December 16
November 19, 2018
Thank you to everyone who took the time to provide feedback on the proposed new ART route and service changes that will go into effect Dec. 16 and 17. Several people attended our two October public meetings and more than 260 responses were received via our online feedback form.
Arlington Transit reviewed all of the feedback that was received and took it into consideration before making final decisions about the service changes.
Summary of feedback
The majority of respondents were in favor of the proposed new ART 72 route and didn’t have objections with the eight new bus stop locations along North Glebe Road. The majority of respondents also were in favor of extending ART 45 Sunday service and increasing weekday rush hour frequency, and supported the proposed service adjustments for the ART 55, 74, 84 and 87 routes.
Arlington Transit made several adjustments to the proposed service changes based on the feedback we received:
- Respondents were against reducing ART 52 frequency to every 35 minutes and felt that was too long of a wait between buses. In response, service frequency will remain at every 30 minutes and no schedule changes will be made.
- Respondents were also against reducing ART 77 frequency to every 35 minutes. As a result, service frequency will not be reduced and an additional bus will be added during peak rush hours so peak service will be every 25 minutes.
Several residents were concerned about increased traffic along North Barton Street. Arlington Transit will evaluate route changes within the Lyon Park community as part of the June 2019 service change.
See below for more information about the ART service changes that will go into effect on Sunday, Dec. 16 and Monday, Dec. 17.
