Arlington County Names Pierre Holloman as New Transit Bureau Chief

April 21, 2025

Arlington County has officially announced the appointment of Pierre Holloman as the new permanent Transit Bureau Chief. Pierre has been serving in an acting capacity since the beginning of the year, stepping into the role following the retirement of Lynn Rivers. His leadership and experience have already proven invaluable, most notably in the successful delivery of the new Arlington Transit Operations and Maintenance Facility this past winter.

Pierre joined Arlington County as Assistant Transit Chief in November 2017 and has played a critical role in advancing transit initiatives that enhance mobility and access throughout the community. His contributions to Arlington Transit are built on a distinguished career in public transportation across the Washington, D.C. region.

Before joining Arlington, Pierre worked for the City of Alexandria, where he led major projects such as the creation of the popular King Street Trolley, development of the Crystal City Potomac Yard Transitway, and the Mark Center Transit Center. His efforts also resulted in over 300 improved bus stops and support for the start of the Potomac Yard Metrorail Station.

Pierre began his career at the District of Columbia Department of Transportation, where he managed a $150 million bus shelter franchise contract. He also contributed to the launch of the District’s first bike-sharing program and helped initiate the region's first MetroExtra bus service connecting Silver Spring, MD to downtown Washington, D.C.

A recognized leader in the transit industry, Pierre currently serves as Chairperson of the American Public Transportation Association's (APTA) Emerging Leaders Program. He is also an active member of several national committees and organizations including APTA’s Bus Operations Committee, Zero Emission Fleet Committee, Fare Collection Systems Committee, and Workforce Development Committee, as well as Latinos In Transit (LIT), the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO), and the Women's Transportation Seminar (WTS).

We are thrilled to welcome Pierre Holloman to this new role and look forward to his continued leadership and vision in guiding Arlington Transit’s future.
