Severe Weather Policy
Esta información está disponible en español.
When severe weather events impact Arlington, customers will be informed through the ART website, ART Alerts, social media, as well as broadcast and print media when ART’s Severe Weather Policy is implemented. Bus stops that are in operation during severe weather conditions will have a blue snowflake decal (similar to the snowflake to the left) in the upper corner of the bus stop flag. Not all bus stops along those routes will be in service. During a severe weather event, ART may be required to operate under the following designated service levels:
1) Limited: Modified routes with some delays in service.
2) Severe: Only service on ART 41, 45, 51, 55, 77, 87, 87A and 87P (no 87X) will be provided. Expect possible delays. Routes will be modified to avoid hills and narrow side streets. Service level will be used:
- If the Federal Government is closed.
- If Arlington County declares a state of emergency; and/or,
- If hazardous roads don’t allow for safe service operation.
3) Suspended Service: All ART routes are cancelled due to hazardous weather and/or road conditions.
Please note that routes may operate on different levels of service depending on road and traffic conditions. The table below gives more information on how the levels of service will impact each route.
Route descriptions are subject to change due to unexpected road and traffic conditions. Snow route maps are available as PDF files, Adobe Reader required.
